Our World / Classic British Interior Design
Is there such a thing as classic British interior design?
Discover three elements of British interior design that inspire our design aesthetic…
British design is rooted in an impressive architectural history, from the Georgian townhouse and grand Neoclassical English manor house, to the rustic country cottage style. At Hill House, we feel this architectural heritage brings a sophisticated depth to today's luxury interior design industry, particularly when working with Grade II-listed period properties in and around London.
We often involve ourselves in the architectural realm from the start of a project, either with in-house architects or through process of creative collaboration. We focus on a strong architectural foundation - including movement, proportion and scale. This helps achieve a more cohesive space for the client that accentuates harmony and spatial flow.
The second element that gives British design its edge is its character, formed and strengthened by a bespoke British craftmanship. Our work, both in the UK and abroad, is always rich in innovative bespoke elements. When acquiring unique and creative pieces we work with many English artisans whose work has often been handed down through several generations of families. This strong British artistry may come into play at various stages of our design projects, from stunning cabinetry and furniture pieces to beautiful bar, kitchen and bathroom designs - as well as custom-made artwork. We're fortunate to be able to draw upon these talents that produce bespoke elements for unique projects to a high standard.
Perhaps British interior design's greatest triumph is its global outlook, drawing on international artistic hubs. At Hill House we design for an array of clientele coming from many continents, cultures and backgrounds. So, this global outlook, which draws inspiration from round the globe, is something that is invaluable to be in touch with in this industry.
At Hill House some of our greatest design ideas are formed by multicultural influences. We take inspiration from everything including: colours, nature, spices, travel, architecture, interiors and the absolute raw display of artistic talent round the world. A touch of international influence brings a wonderful mix of old and new to interior design and is an opportunity to introduce a unique creative flare into a home often influenced by the client's personal international heritage or experiences.
So, is there such a thing as classic British interior design? These three elements rooted in its traditions are certainly what gives today's British interior design its depth. Although we take influence from these, our Hill House principle is always in respect of our clients. We stay true to the client's brief, aware of their desires and expectations. Nevertheless, we continually look to exceed these expectations through enhancing the overall design scheme, creating high end interiors that embody the Hill House signature style 'Modern Luxury'.
