Our World / Behind the scenes of an extension built for entertaining
Private Estate, Wentworth
In 2006 Hill House Interiors created an award-winning luxury interior design scheme for a 9,000 square feet home on the exclusive Wentworth Estate. In 2018, we were asked by the returning client in Surrey to design their 3,000 square feet extension. The new project was initially born from the desire for a much larger, walk-in closet and dressing area for the master suite. However, the owners swiftly realised their dream to have considerably larger entertainment spaces. This included an Art Déco-inspired bespoke feature bar and sumptuous cinema room!
Having worked so extensively with the private client over the last twelve years, it was an honour to manage their latest project. To transform this home we used inspiring fabrics, innovative textures and complementary tones to seamlessly integrate the extension into the rest of the home.
Our design practice based in Weybridge Surrey was brought on from the very start of this extension. As a consequence, we advised the interior architecture and worked closely with developers on the high-quality flooring, bespoke doors and inspired layout.
The Entrance Hall
The hallway is the first thing guests see when they enter a home, so it's always a key feature and starting point of any scheme. This transitory spot was the perfect place to sweep guests off their feet and was utilised to add elegant décor details that helped to elevate the overall ambience of the home.
Upon entering, you're met with a stunning Jerusalem crema grey marble staircase with glass balustrade and leather handle. This installation is a beautiful contrast to the bespoke, hand sculpted artwork - a single bonsai tree - spanning the 20ft wall. This relief is specially finished in a shimmering hand applied pearlescent coat and subtly lit with soft recessed lighting, enhancing the incredibly intricate detail of this favoured far eastern tree specimen. The sublimely elegant hand-blown floating crystal leaf chandelier that presides over the space - apart from making a stunning sculptural visual centrepiece - creates a beautiful light and shadow play across its surrounding surfaces, enhancing the space further.
The Entertaining Space
We split this magnificent room into two areas using a celestial brown marble dual-view fire place. Yet to ensure a sense of synergy between the two, we dressed the Jerusalem crema marble flooring in matching textured monochrome rugs. This adds a warm element to the space and draws upon the sharp, contemporary geometry that is played with throughout.
We thoroughly enjoyed designing the Art Déco inspired entertaining space, with its stunning storm colour palette. We dressed the more formal scheme with a pair of large sofas finished with hexagonal bronze metal detailing to frame the fireplace. Although, the supersized goblet shaped Quartz stone chandelier suspended in bronze framework takes centre stage!
We loved designing this show-stopping bar for the more informal side of the entertaining space. We chose geometric bevelled mirrors on the back wall to cleverly replicate the padded leather panels on the front bar. This generated a wonderful sense of fluidity encouraged by carefully placed LED lighting. The stylish, comfortable bar stools are from our own HH collection.
Currently this private estate in Wentworth is listed as a finalist in the Residential Design Over £1M Category for the 2019 SBID International Design Awards. This is firmly established as one of the most prestigious interior design awards in the global design calendar! We hope that this outstanding property receives this respected award in the upcoming awards ceremony.
